Where is the Spring?

I’m totally a weather person. You know, a person whos mood and feelings are affected by the weather and the winds. But I wouldn’t say it’s as easy as sun equals happiness and cold equals sadness. It’s more about it being a beautiful day, and a snowy, cold day can be as wonderful as a perfectly sunny one. Maybe it depends on the mood I wake up with, to begin with. What I do know is that the gray, mellow weather between rain and fog is the worst kind of weather. That always gets me in a terrible mood.

Why am I bringing up this weather talk? Well, just because we’ve had a couple of wonderful spring-days recently. Look at yesterday for example. Sunny, 55 degrees and warm. What more can one ask for when winter is coming to an end, and all we want is to see the sun and feel it on our skin. I was walking around the city yesterday, just enjoying the wonderful day and tried to let it sink in. Because as nice as it was, I feel pretty sure that spring is not quite here yet. Unfortunately. I just feel that we are going to get some more snow or something just to set us off before spring really gets here. I, and a lot of people with me, just wish that would happen soon.

Today is a nice day though so I’ll go out for a long walk just to enjoy it while it lasts. And we’ll go to Brooklyn later today to walk the homeless dogs. I stongly encourage those of you who can to do it as well!

East River Park!

Published by josephine2222 under Places Edit This

Not living close to Central Park anymore is really hard. I used to go to the park at least 6-7 times a week. I did everything from run to walk to stoll to tann. If I wasn’t walking inside it, I was power walking along the wall around it. I simply think that the park might be the very best thing about this wonderful city.

Now, I’ve found a new place to do almost everything I used to do before; East River Park. It’s a park along the East river in lower Manhattan. Some of it is lined along FDR drive by Houston. By I enter it up by 23rd street.

The actual park itself contains of 4 ballfields, tennis courts, a work out arena, benches overlooking the water as well as paths for us runners/walkers. The one thing that ERP has that Central park doesn’t have is the closeness to the water. Although looking over Brooklyn and Williamsburg (which might not be the most pretty view), it’s quite nice. I’m just happy that I’ve found a new place to run while seeing other people and a little bit of nature.

Fire fire!

One thing I really like about this city is the fact that there are so many policeofficers and firemen. I mean, there are probably more firemen in New York than any other city in this country. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a very good thing, I’m just not use to it(still). There obvisously have to be that many because of the high number of people living here, but also because all the buldings are pretty old and are placed very close to each other. Everytime the is a fire (or what they think is a fire) they really go over the top with sending out cars and back up.

Walking home today, I saw the biggest madness I’ve seen in this city. I was walking down 3rd Avenue and saw all these cop cars, firetrucks, and ambulances lined up along 3rd. And it kept going for a couple of blocks. I soon realized that the fire was on 33 street but that they wanted to secure 2 blocks in every direction around the building where the fire initially started.  I was almost shocked seeing that big of a “rescue” team for that small fire. I understood why they did it, it just looked funny.

Everyone who knows me knows that I have the biggest crush on firemen so imagine me standing there on the street surrounded by about 50 firemen. For a second there, I was in heaven… at least I remembered why they were there. I just hope no one was hurt.

Talent search!

When I blog, I don’t see Unique they way that you guys do. I see it more from behind the scenes. I do, however, go to Unique just to see what you see and if there are any modifications that I can make. I don’t know if you noticed but a while ago I changed the picture on top. I really like this one.

Anyway, what I was saying was that when I went on Unique the other day, I saw this ad for models, actors, and movie extras at this place called Talenthunter. So I clicked my way to this place and it seemed like a legit business that really did what they said they would do, so I actually signed up! Can you believe that?! Me, who has never acted before (but who always wanted to). SO now, I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. If I’m lucky, I’ll get a casting for something soon. Isn’t that very exciting?! You could be reading the blog of a future movie star. Superstardom, here I come! :D

The Academy Awards!

I know for sure that I am one of millions of blogers around the world to write about the academy awards today. But I don’t care, it was just that good. I’ve always thought of the Oscars as an uptight and fancy occation, and it still was, it’s just that this year everybody seemed at little more relaxed. If felt like there were more room for improvs, comedy, and show numbers by the incredible Hugh Jackman. Man, can that guy dance. I was really impresed.

I’m not going to go on and on about the amazingly beautiful gowns or who won the awards, because that is actually something that everyone will read on their own anyway, but I will focus on the fact that I really had a good time watching the gala. As I said, it felt relaxed, it was funnier than ever, and there were some great speaches. And I agreed with almost all the winners, especially Sean Penn as Harvey Milk in the movie Milk. And Slumdog Millionaire wiped out the awards completely, but that was just fun because they all seemed truly happy.

I’l probably spend the entire day looking at pics and clips even though we saw the whole thing. Let me tell you, it was just that good. And I was in good company with good friends and good food, so the entire evening was the best in a long time. Looking forward to next year!

Need for speed!

Published by josephine2222 under Places Edit This

I’ve gotten sick. Not at all like me, I don’t get sick. But now that I have I have to take it easy. And for me, that means not going to the gym. Oh well, a days rest never hurt anyone. It’s just that the weather is so nice so I’d like to be in my beloved park, just walking around. But instead I’m sitting here relaxing, watching Entourage. God I love that show!

Watching it has made me think about going to LA. I’ve never been there but it’s always been a dream to go. And maybe stop by Las Vegas and San Fransisco as well. Maybe I’d take San Fransisco first since that’s probably the biggest dream right now. I just want to get away, to a place I’ve never been and see some beautiful scenery (and maybe also some beautiful people). I don’t know. Maybe I’m feeling so strongly about this because I’m so sick of the cold weather and I just want to get away, but also since I’ve been watching three seasons of Entourage in about a week. They are where I want to be.

We have some loose plans of maybe going away for spring break, but that is more guided towards the Caribbean or Mexico than the west coast. Going there, I want to do it with my girl friends, you know, fun people. And you know what I’m thinking; Roadtrip! :D

Entourage!

How come I’m always the last to discover the really good things in life? I mean, what am I doing wrong to always be one step behind? Maybe I just don’t want to like things when everybody else is liking it. Where is the originallity in that? What I do regret in this very moment, is that I haven’t been watching the fab comedy show called Entourage all along. I only discovered it very recently but now I’m hook. I have of course heard about the show since it started but never felt intrigued enough to watch it. Now I’m being push on by my friends and boy, am I glad about that. This show rocks! It’s funny, easy to watch, and the dialogue is hilarious! :D

For those of you who don’t know anyting about the show, it’s about this up and coming moviestar in Hollywood (Vince) who asks his friends from back home (Queens) to come out to LA and be his crew/entourage. His best friend, Eric, has also become his manager, and constantly finds himself learning about the job from Vince’s crazy agent and bitchy pr agent.  Besides Vince and Eric, Vince’s halfbrother Johnny Drama and friend Turlte also live in the same house. The script is just so funny and the characters are crazy, but it works and I’m hooked!

Vince is played by Adrian Grenier, Eric is played by Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon plays the role of Vince’s half-brother, Jerry Ferrara plays Turtle, and my favorite character is the crazy agent played by Jeremy Piven.

If you haven’t seen this show, I strongly suggest that you do. I even believe that HBO makes it easy on you and have put out the episodes from the first couple of seasons. Go see it now! You love it, it’s hilarious!

Fashion Week!

I’m dying over here. Fashion Week is in full speed and I’m not in it. Not even a little bit. That is, and has been my dream since I can remember, and I keep telling myself that one day it will happen. I just wish that day could be now. Oh well, one should never say never and I’ll stay positive until it happens!

Luckily, for us who doesn’t get to enjoy the shows from front row, we can always turn to Style.com, the official website for Vouge magazine. The have pics from all the shows so you won’t miss anything. These days, that website is my home.

Shows I like so far is Acne (being Swedish and all). They have some very cool, fairly simple looks that I really like. Dark colors, silvery shoes, and leather skirts. A really nice collection. Another great collection this year comes from Betsey Johnson who always make colorful, one of a kind collections. This year was no different. I really liked the colored leggings, the full bodied skirts, and the hard makeup. She really knows how to put on a show, even just by looking at the clothes.

I have three other brands that I want to mention; Jill Stuart, Marc Jacobs, and William Rast. Jill Stuart has always been a favorite. Her low key, peeled off style always had my attention. This collection was a bit different. It was inspired by women in rock music and, therefore, was a little bit out of her comfort zone. Don’t wory, she so pulled it off! I simply loved her collection. William Rast is Justin Timberlakes brand and is kind of like a street brand for both girls and boys. This collection was a bit disappointing is the sense that everything pretty much looked the same. Boring is what I would call it! Marc Jacobs I always love. I mean, what is there not to love. I my book, he can’t do anything wrong! Love love love!

The ones that I have mentioned are the latest shows from Fashion Week. Some of the other ones I like are Diane von Furstenburg, Tracy Reese, Carolina Herrera, and Luca Luca. Go in to Style.com yourselves and have a look. You might find things I haven’t!

Aroma!

Published by josephine2222 under Places Edit This

One of my favorite thinga about this city, which I’ve said over and over again, is that you constantly find new things and places. Sure, you have your spots that you go to and keep coming back to, but it’s always nice to find something new. Especially when you find places that have the potential to be your new hangout spots.

Today I found a plaace like that. We were walking around Soho and were about to head to West Village when we stoped for lunch at this cool, cozy cafe place called Aroma Espresso Bar on Green Street with entrance on West Houston. Not only was the setting and decor really nice, the food was really good. We had big sallads and sandwiches and everything was delicious. And you get a piece of chocolate with your coffe. Bonus points for that :)

They have free WiFi, very clean bathrooms, and is aparently always busy. To me, that’s a good sign that it’s a good place. You saw many people sitting there for hours with their computer or books. But there could just as easilly have been stay at home moms with their children running around. Kind of a place for anyone. And the location is superb. What’s not to like?

LES!

Published by josephine2222 under Places Edit This

Last night was girls night out. It was Valentines day and we wanted to make ourselves feel better since we are all single. That’s alright though and we had the best time ever. Started the night, like we always do, at a friends house with a couple of bottles of wine. The we headed down to East Villiage and Big Bar (7th between 1st and 2nd ave). The place was empty so we quickly got down to Lower East Side (our favorite part of the city) and went to Max Fish and Pianos. There are some really cool palce down there, especially on and around Ludlow. There are a lot of cool bars and hang out spots but I wouldn’t recommend it if you are looking to go clubbing. Down there you will only find low key bars and trashy places. The people down there are so cool and relaxed, it’s not at all like the parties everywhere else on Manhattan, and people are much more lai- back. That’s so nice for a change.

We ended up staying at the top floor at Pianos until closing and then we pretty much headed home, drunk as crazy. Today wasn’t that much fun though. Hangover is not a favorite feeling. I did manage to overcome by drinking a lot of water and taking a long, nice walk in the park. Both things forced on me by my friend. She knew it would make me feel better and she was right. I just love it when my friends know we all too well :)
